I originally trained in CBT and therefore I use this approach as the base for all my therapy. However, I complement this with ACT, Mindfulness and CFT (Compassion Focused Therapy) principles. I also offer EMDR treatment, please see below for more details.
CBT works on the principle of how thoughts, feelings, physical symptoms and behaviours are interlinked and how we can get caught in negative cycles. All of these different areas can be affected by what has or is happening in our current lives
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. EMDR has an extensive evidence base for treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) but has also been proven to treatment a range of other psychological disorders such as anxiety, abuse, addictions and phobias.
OPTIONS FOR THERAPY
There are different methods of delivering psychological therapy. Most people will be familiar with face to face treatment but alternative approaches have become more popular, often making treatment more easily accessible and easier to fit into their busy lives. I offer a number of different approaches to treatment
I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist having completed my CBT training at The University of York in 2010. I began my career in mental health working for the NHS more than 10 years ago. I have since worked in primary care mental health for both the public and private sector and have extensive experience of working with psychological difficulties. Since training I have expanded my skills and knowledge through clinical experience, supervision, continued professional development (CPD) and training. I work with individuals from the age of 17 who are experiencing depression and/or anxiety related disorders.
