About me

I began working in mental health almost 15 years as a Primary Care Mental Health Worker (PCMHW) initially offering guided self-help and brief CBT interventions for ‘common’ mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. I saw the value of this work and how effective the CBT based interventions were that I went on to complete my post-graduate CBT training at The University of York, becoming an Accredited CBT Therapist in 2010. I began my private practice in 2017, working full time seeing clients one-to –one at my clinic based at Clifton Moor. I have also worked as a Sessional Therapist at The Tuke Centre and Associate Therapist for IESO Digital Health offering online therapy.

I have also completed training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) for Depression and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing)

I am fully accredited with the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP) which means I adhere to ethical principles, confidentiality and ensure continued professional development. I attend regular clinical supervision which allows me to reflect on my clinical practice to ensure I provide excellent clinical standards. To check Accreditation please click here
I worked for the NHS in York and surrounding areas for 8 years, providing assessment, individual treatment and group support.

I am also trained as an EMDR Practitioner which is a fantastic treatment approach and valuable addition to my clinical toolbox. I have been able to experience how effective this treatment is to help clients work through their traumatic experiences. Although synonymous with ‘trauma’, it is also very effective when working with a range of presentations such as; grief, addictions, OCD, anxiety and depression. I have an interest in how the body reacts and responds to life events, which we can effectively ‘carry with us’ without knowing the impact this has on how we feel. I regularly use EMDR with clients either as a full course of treatment or as an effective addition to CBT or IPT.

My areas of specialism are:

  • Depression
  • Panic Disorder (with or without agoraphobia)
  • Generalised Anxiety Disorder
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Health Anxiety (Hypochondria)
  • Social Phobia
  • Low Self Esteem
  • Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)
  • Specific Phobia (E.g. needle phobia, animal phobia, claustrophobia)
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Trichotillomania (hair pulling)
  • Stress & anxiety
  • Anger management
  • Work related issues

Through my experiences I have been able to see how effective CBT can be in helping people. I believe it gives people a solid basis for understanding the difficulties they face.
